Abstract. This article explores the significant impact that philosophical thought
has had on the development and evolution of modern linguistic theories. It identifies key
philosophical movements, such as empiricism, rationalism, and structuralism, that have
shaped linguistic inquiry. The role of influential philosophers, including Ferdinand de
Saussure, Noam Chomsky, and Wittgenstein, is examined to illustrate how their ideas
contributed to concepts of meaning, language structure, and the relationship between
language and thought
